THE REVOLUTION - VARIO PLUS CONTROL MODULE
OVERVIEW

TECHNOLOGY:
Although our VARIO PLUS CONTROL MODULE was never underpowered, we decided to add a little bit more of a punch in addition to increasing available memory. What does that mean? Depending on the configuration we now have up to 4 times the memory available in addition to up to 80% faster processing. This will ensure that we have plenty of options for many more features to come. Is that necessary? Yes! We have already added many more functions and we are planning to add even more in the future. In addition we have chosen to select more expensive next-gen components to optimize the design and efficiency for an outstanding product.

EFFICIENCY:
By using the latest technology and next-gen components we were able to significantly decrease power consumption during operation and much more importantly during standby as well. This is a truly “green” product now. How “green” you’re asking?
Consider this: with the energy a car’s average battery is losing throughout 1 month (self-discharge) if not being recharged, you would be able to operate THE REVOLUTION continuously for more than 3 years on standby!

DESIGN AND CONNECTION:
Even though the electronics used for THE REVOLUTION are technologically much more advanced and complicated than any of our previous products, we have managed to keep a small footprint – the overall outer case diameter is almost identical to the VARIO PLUS CONTROL MODULE. In addition we have managed to further optimize our connecting harness for better cable protection and durability as well as look and feel.

- 1.9/2.0 TDI (EDC16 and PPD)
- 2.0 T(F)SI (ME9 and MED 9.2)
- 3.2/3.4 FSI (ME9)
- 2.5i (ME 7)
- 1.4/1.8 T(F)SI (MED 9.2)
- other engines with similar ECU’s
In addition, THE REVOLUTION has already successfully been tested with VOLGSWAGEN MKV (GOLF/RABBIT/JETTA/GTI), PASSAT, EOS and TIGUAN as well as SEAT LEON and SKODA OCTAVIA.

DATA DISPLAY:
Previously the information display was limited to 3 fixed sensor readings at a time with the VARIO PLUS CONTROL MODULE – even though you were able to modify some data, people were asking us if it was not possible to virtually make the screen freely configurable. They were basically asking us to allow them to decide what sensor, where and when would be displayed at any given time.

The solution is called THE REVOLUTION. You can now decide not only what function you want to display, but also where. In addition you are also able to show 4 sensors at a time. Yes, that is right, FOUR ON THE SAME PAGE! A lot of work was necessary to come up with a solution that is not only doing what we say it is but that is doing so in a smart way. By smart we mean that you can decide whether you want to display 1 sensor, 2 sensors, 3 or 4 sensors at a time. In addition, if you only display 1 sensor, then the sampling frequency (speed of which the sensor data is being processed) is 4 times higher than when you display 4 individual sensors at a time. If you decide to display 2 sensors, speed is still twice as fast as it would be with all sensor slots being updated. This does not affect the speed at which the data is displayed on your screen but it affects the way the data is being processed by the module. Higher sampling frequency means more accurate results.

DISPLAY LINE MEMORY:
Now that the display is freely configurable, wouldn’t it be annoying if you would have to re-configure it over and over again any time you would have left the performance menu? Don’t worry, we thought about that too. Each configuration you make is permanently stored inside the module. So whenever you leave the performance menu and enter it again, you will start off right where you left before – no guessing and no reconfiguration.

MULTI LANGUAGE:
We already offered our VARIO PLUS CONTROL MODULE in a couple of different languages but THE REVOLUTION can do so much better: if your car’s configuration is set to one of the following languages it automatically selects and uses accordingly:
- ENGLISH
- SPANISH
- FRENCH
- GERMAN
- ITALIAN
- PORTUGUESE

TURBO BOOST PRESSURE:
If you’re having a supported turbocharged engine you will be able to display the boost pressure. Not only that but you can decide whether you would like to see the absolute or relative boost pressure (absolute includes atmospheric pressure, relative does not); in addition you can choose the units to be KPA, PSI or BAR. But hold on, that’s not all. You are also able to see the MAXIMUM recorded boost since you started your engine (again, absolute or relative, KPA, BAR or PSI).

LAMBDA (O2):
We have been offering an O2 sensor display on the VARIO PLUS CONTROL MODULE for quite some time for a variety of supported engines. THE REVOLUTION takes this function to the next level. People have been asking us about a way to display those O2 readouts in a more user friendly way – the problem with the factory lambda sensor is, that it is not very fast acting (sensitive) and detailed. A more sophisticated sensor would make no sense as the ECU inside your car would not be able to make any use of the extra information. However it would make sense on THE REVOLUTION as one would be able to get a more detailed picture of what is going on. So to increase visibility we added the BAR DISPLAY in addition to the already known DIGITAL DISPLAY. The BAR DISPLAY allows easy verification, whether the engine runs lean or rich at any given time. It will not give you detailed numbers, like the DIGITAL DISPLAY does, but it is easier to read, especially while you are driving the car. You can switch between DIGITAL OR BAR DISPLAY at any time.

0-'X' MPH (0-'X' KMH):
This function was already introduced on the previous generation VARIO PLUS CONTROL MODULE. However, it has now been significantly improved: It allows you to measure the acceleration time for 0-'X' MPH or KMH. 'X' in this case can be defined to anything between 30-200. It now fully utilizes our REALSPEED technology together with higher data sampling speed for the most accurate results possible. This allows you to measure any acceleration timing you like within the limits but please keep in mind that with increasing speed, the accuracy decreases proportionally. Without a stationary speed trap or GPS assisted measurement this is as accurate and as good as it can get.

QUARTER/HALF MILE (400/800 M):
Another function which has originally been introduced on the VARIO PLUS CONTROL MODULE. However, this one is better. It not only allows you to measure your QUARTER/HALF MILE or 400/800 METERS using our REALSPEED technology as well as higher data sampling speed for the most accurate results possible, it will also display the SPEED you were having  the moment you hit that QUARTER/HALF MILE or 400/800 METERS goal. Now you know how long it takes to hit the mark but also how fast you were when that happened!

RPM AND TORQUE:
You can display the current RPM as well as the current calculated TORQUE on your engine, independently from each other. Those two readouts are working hand in hand together and both are featuring our QUICKHOLD technology. What that means is if you decide to look at both readouts at the same time and the current TORQUE hits a maximum value, this value will be on QUICKHOLD, not updating for about 1.5 seconds; in addition the current RPM Display is also on QUICKHOLD during that same period so you can not only see the previous maximum TORQUE but also at what RPM that TORQUE was available – pretty smart.

HORSEPOWER:
Did you ever want to find out how many horses your ride has? Just because you wanted to be sure you got them all or you wanted to verify that the extra ones you just recently purchased at a local tuner are really under the hood. No problem anymore! THE REVOLUTION allows you to calculate the on pavement HP of your car and also in addition the calculated maximum torque available. Measuring is as easy as taking her for a ride and hitting the gas; thanks to our REALSPEED technology, results can be as accurate as +/- 1%. So what are you waiting for?

OIL TEMPERATURE:
Under normal driving conditions the OIL TEMPERATURE of your engine should be of no concern, which is why over 99% of all cars sold today do not have a gauge for that from factory. What if you have modified your car or if you race it on the track? Not only is it important to monitor the maximum temperature of your oil in order to detect overheating or technical problems early but also knowing when your engine is really warmed up before you hit the gas can make a huge difference when it comes to increasing the lifetime of your power train. THE REVOLUTION allows you now to continuously monitor the temperature of your engine’s oil in either Celsius or Fahrenheit!

REALSPEED:
We talked about it a couple of times already while describing other functions which make use of our REALSPEED technology. So it must be important, right? You bet it is! See, on average your dashboard will show you a higher speed than at which you are really driving at. Why, you’re asking? Many reasons: for example to avoid you getting a ticket for speeding and to make the car look faster than it really is amongst many other. So what does that mean to you? THE REVOLUTION offers many performance related sensor readings and calculations, such as HORSEPOWER, 0-'X' MPH/KMH times and QUARTER/HALF MILE. To make those calculations properly you need to know the speed you’re moving at as accurately as possible – the better the sensor data is, the better the result will be. So in addition to using the REALSPEED data, which can be as accurate as +/- 0.5% in most cases, you can also show it on the display in order know how fast you are really going.

SHIFT/RED LIGHT:
So, now with all the tools we’re giving you with THE REVOLUTION, you found out that it is best for you to change gear at 6100 RPM and not at 6500, or you modified the engine and your RPM limiter is now much higher than it was before so suddenly the factory RPM dial doesn’t make too much sense anymore if you want to determine when is the best time to switch? Or even now that you have raised your RPM limiter, you would want to make sure that under normal conditions you do not hit that new mark unless you really have to. So, once again, THE REVOLUTION will help. Simply set the RPM at which you want to be notified to change gear and as soon as you hit your benchmark the display will change and let you know that it is time to switch – once you drop below your defined limit, the display will return to showing you the readings you had previously defined!

BIG GEAR DISPLAY (DSG):
This seems to be one of the most requested functions we have been asked to add to our product: SHOW THE GEARS IN BIG LETTERS ON THE CENTRAL DISPLAY.
We have been hard at work to make this happen and we are proud that we are finally able to offer this great feature for DSG equipped cars. This was rather challenging because there are so many different versions of the MFD out there which seem to be looking identical on the surface but in fact are using different technology or software "under the hood" and because of the core technical limitations that apply to all MFD's. In order to be able to make this work for as many as possible configurations and hardware/software versions we had to come up with a solution that not only allows to display the selected gear in big letters but also would take into account the different technical requirements on the various models out there. So from now on, if you have a supported version of the DSG, you can choose to display the current gear you are in on the MFD in big letters. (available on the revolution-vcm only)

AUTOROLL:
Another great, new feature we have added is AUTOROLL. If enabled it switches through all available measurements, advancing once every few seconds. This way you could add up to 3 additional permanent readings while still being able to display other options available without touching the configuration or rearranging the displayed options.

DIAGNOSTIC MODE:
While we already support an increasing number of configurations for a variety of Makes and Models, it is impossible to predict future changes or the introduction of a new or previously unknown configuration by the manufacturer. THE REVOLUTION is able to "search and adopt" to a variety of unknown configurations, but there are limits. In order to be able to make necessary adjustments in those cases where not all functions can be used or where a configuration can not be selected at all, we added a new function called DIAGNOSE. This allows you to display important information we require in order to replicate your compatibility issue or to try to find a similar configuration without the need for any additional tools or technical knowledge on your side. This will help to significantly speed up the process of adopting our product to new configurations.

RNS-510 REAR VIEW CAMERA ACTIVATION:
Another function requested by our customers: if you have the RNS-510 NAVIGATION/ENTERTAINMENT TOUCH SCREEN HEAD-UNIT and also the latest Rear-View camera module installed in your car, you can now enable the rear view camera display even while driving forward at any time and at any speed, just with the push of a button.

RND-510 WATCH DVD WHILE DRIVING ACTIVATION:
So you have the RNS-510 NAVIGATION/ENTERTAINMENT TOUCH SCREEN HEAD-UNIT installed in your car but you are not able to watch DVD's while driving? This is particularly of concern if you would like to entertain the passengers on the front or back - by default the DVD playback is disabled as soon as you start moving the car. THE REVOLUTION will remove the speed limitation for playing back DVD's (please make sure to obey your local laws) so passengers can keep watching while you are driving. It is not necessary to install an additional box or cables - this new function is standard on THE REVOLUTION-VCM at no extra charge.

In addition THE REVOLUTION also offers our comfort enhancement functions, such as:
- parking mirror assist
- brake light assist
- comfort indicators (2-6)
- remote window opening/closing
- reverse indicator and/or horn signaling to warn others
